โš’๏ธJudging

This document provides a comprehensive guide to the judging process on Devfolio, from both the Judge's and Organizer's perspectives.

Judging Mode

Devfolio offers three modes of Judging:

  • Online Judging: For online hackathons.

  • Offline Judging: For In Real Life (IRL) hackathons.

  • Sponsor Judging: For sponsor tracks.

Judging Criteria

Projects are evaluated based on the following criteria:

  • Technicality: Is the project functional? Does it justify the hackathon duration?

  • Originality: How innovative is the project? Does it bring a fresh perspective or solution?

  • Practicality: Is the project useful and accessible (Mobile App, Web App, Desktop Application)?

  • Aesthetics: How is the UI/UX of the project? Is it intuitive and user-friendly?

  • Wow Factor: Does the project have a unique aspect that makes it stand out, even if it lacks in other criteria?

Prerequisite for Judges

  • A laptop (as the judging will be done on Devfolio).

  • A Devfolio account. Follow these steps based on your current status:

    • If you do not have a Devfolio account:

      • Visit devfolio.co/signup and create an account with the same email ID on which you received the judging email. This will onboard you as a jury for the hackathon.

    • If you already have a Devfolio account:

      • Ensure you are logged in with the same email ID on which you received the judging email.

Judging Process

A detailed walkthrough of judging process for Judges.

  1. Receive Access Email: Judges will receive an email once they are added by the organizers on the judging dashboard. This email address is given access to the judging view which would be hosted at devfolio.co/judging/<hackathon slug>

  1. Start Judging: Type a team name, builder name, or email address in the search bar to start judging.

  1. Score Projects: Put scores as per the judging criteria (You can come back and edit the scores as long as the judging is ongoing).

  1. Drop Notes: Drop your notes during Judging to finalize winners post judging.

All the projects need to be judged by atleast min. judges specified. In any case a project is not, it goes into a partially judged state which can be handled later(IRL).

For Organizers

A detailed walkthrough of judging process for Organizers.

  1. Add Judges: Ensure judges are added in the 'speakers and judges' tab on the organizer dashboard.

  2. Set Judging Duration: Set 'Judging begins' and 'Judging end' under the 'Judging' tab in the organizer dashboard.

  1. Judges allotment: Assign judges as per rooms

  1. Dashboard Overview: Organizer can view 'Judging Stats', and 'Project Scores (export CSV)' which gets updated live post project judging.

Notion Template

Here's a template which you can duplicate and customise to share judging steps with your hackathon Judges.
